Arrival of Oddie II on Mount Stromlo

There is a brief article written by Stephen Watt on the Astromart website and the extract below was taken from the Sydney Observatory website..

"Saturday 24 September 2011 was the launch of the new Oddie telescope (Oddie II), a reconstruction that replaces the original Howard Grubb 9” (23–cm) refractor (lens) telescope (Oddie I), severely damaged in the January 2003 fires. Exactly 100 years ago the Oddie telescope was hauled up the mountain that lies on the outskirts of what is now the city of Canberra. It was the first research telescope on the Commonwealth-granted site, a bequest from Mr James Oddie of Ballarat."

Having used the Oddie quite extensively in the mid 80's I read and looked at this piece with a smile on my face

What a beautiful telescope Tim has created! I want to look through it as soon as I can.

The historical bent 100 years after the first Oddie arrived at Mt Stromlo was a brilliant idea too for the inauguration.

Congratulations to Tim and those who made this project a reality, you can all be very proud of the result

Where is it to be housed, do we know?

Mike

That's excellent to see the Oddie scope brought back to life again.

Tim is an amazing artist.

Should've gotten Bill Oddie to rededicate it
