This happens quite often with both Moon rises and sets. Because the Moon rises or sets about 40 to 60 mins later each day. If a rise happens just before midnight on say the 1st, it doesn't rise until after midnight the following night, making it an event on the 3rd. Hence no rise on the 2nd.
