Leon,
Have a look at contrast ratio figures... generally, the higher the contrast ratio the better. My Samsung 931c has a contrast ratio of 2000:1 and and a 2ms refresh rate. You may not need a quick refresh rate unless you're into gaming or movies. Have a look at screens if you can - look for dead pixels, and ask about a dead pixel guarantee.
Al.

HI Leon,
Best bet is to trundle down to your JB Hifi store in Ballarat and pick up a Benq 21.5" LCD screen for only $292, has a 10000:1 contrast ratio and 5ms response rate. On the same page is a Samsung one for $328 but the BenQ one is better stats wise.
Can't really go wrong at JB, they have good prices overall.
http://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers/desktops/
Also, try Hardly Normal in Ballarat, they have some good specials on 22" LCD monitors and above. There is one there for $799 for a 26" widescreen but that's getting a bit decadent even if money is no object.
http://www.harveynorman.com.au/produ...-monitors.html
Overall, look at paying around $300 for a 22" LCD and about $500-$800 for a 26" LCD.
You might find some specials around the traps too, check out the usual suspects at Good Guys, Bing Lee, Harvey Norman, Clive Peeters and JB Hifi and see whats on special.
Al's advice is good, 10000:1 contrast and less than 5ms is probably your baseline, and more contrast and lower response time is just cream on the cake.
Good luck and have fun shopping, dont be afraid to say "mate, I will give you $500 for that $799 monitor" and see what they do. If they say no, walk out, muttering about spending your money elsewhere, then come back 30 minutes later with $500 CASH in your hand and check again. You might be surprised.....
Cheers
Chris

My Pleasure Leon,
Being in computers helps, and knowing where to look and how to buy helps even more, good luck.

I agree with Mighty_oz,
The 24" Dell's are pretty schmick.
My 2405FPW -- yes, the letters are different to today's naming standards -- (2005 model) is still going strong.

Humayun

Hi Guys I have had a look around town and really haven't come up with anything as yet.
I have bought a number of computers and lappys form dell and have had a great run with all their products, so I thought I might look at their site and consider purchasing from them agai.
I quite like this one so would appreciate if you good people could assist and give your opinion if this would suit my purpose.
It is directly from the Dell site and is model number 2408WFP.
Many thanks.
Leon

Forget it.
Go and buy either a 32 or 36 " True HD TV that has HDMI input.
Then connect your computer to it using a HDMI to DVI (Or what ever you have as your computer Video) and thats it.
Resolution is 1920x1080, Contrast ratio as high as you can afford.
You can do picture in picture, watch tv and on the computer at the same time. List goes on and on.
I use a 52" Sony TV, and mate, its brilliant.
Do yourself a favour and get it.
You will never go back. Too boot, you have a digital and analog tuner built in sound, motion, and video enhancements, including the newer 200Hz screens.
Starting prices are from around $1100 onwards.
Make sure its True HD (1920x1080), oh yeah, and LCD, but you can get Plasma if you want, but its heavier.

Theo,
You can do all those things (with the exception of HDMI -- maybe that's changed now, not sure) with the Dell 24" LCDs.
I've got mine hooked up via DVI, have the Nintendo Wii plugged into it as well, and also a HD TV tuner card through the computer at 1920x1200, looks stunning. It does picture-in-picture, picture-by-picture, etc.
Regards,
Humayun

Bit of a late post.
But are you sure it's your monitor that's packed it in?
Or is it your video card?
I strongly recommend swapping a screen from another pc onto your "suspect" pc before going out and buying anything.
