Jupiter 30Aug2008

Gosh it's been a while since I did any imaging, I just haven't felt the urge to drag the gear out for a long time. I bought a Toucam the other month but tonight was the first night I have had a chance to give it a good shake down.

This was taken early in the evening while waiting for Venus and Mercury to appear from behind some cloud. It is my first decent effort with the new SPC900NC Toucam attached to the 8" Dob.

Nice one Andew

Funnily enough I was out the back tonight (just over the hill from you ) with the dob looking at Jupiter, and I too had the urge to do some imaging...then I remembered I haven't installed all the software on the new lappy so I thought better of it. Nice shot - similar details to those that I observed through the eyepiece

Nice shot andrews... did you do any imaging of Jupiter later in the night? the seeing was pretty drastically improved around 7:45~8pm then went back a bit blurry again..

Actually Alex I did go back out at around 9:30 pm once the kids were in bed and asleep. The videos I shot then were really bad, very soft even though I hadn't touched the focus from earlier. Plus I also underexposed those ones compared to my earlier efforts so I ended up trashing the lot.

At least you got some imaging done Andrew, it's been cloud and rain here all night.

Nice shot mate.

What's this? You had the urge to do some imaging???? This is good to hear. You WILL eventually join the dark side young Skywalker!

We will have to get together soon and have an imaging session together now that I have my own webcam.

Thanks. Yes, I am still struggling along with no tracking. Although tracking would just mean I could bypass the 'ninox' step to centre the images before loading into Registax.
