with the cost of fuel being the way it is - I will forfeit the trip to Qld astrofest if it is raining and clouded over july/august- despite the fact the company would be good!!

If was me, and fuel was 1c a litre, I still wouldn't go if cloudy weather was forecast.

I am sorry to hear about that terrible forecast. It just doesn't end does it? 2008 will go down in history as the crappiest year on record.

hey if fuel was that cheap i would go for two weeks no problems - there are some great people to talk to up there - then there is Paul?? I really enjoy Astrofest, maybe i would go regardless - time away from home etc... but if it is raining constantly ????

Actually I'm trying to apply reverse Psychology to the weather Geoff. What do you think my chances are.

Yep. That's about the size of it

What difference will a few more months make to a year which has essentially been a write-off from a seeing/rain/cloud point of view?!?!

Looks like it's not only Melbourne then.

Currently, the whole eastern side of the country east of Alice Springs is under solid cloud.

I just made a list of stuff to observe for tonight - might aswell rip it up because it will be obselete by the next moonless clear sky

Looks about a 50% chance for my area to receive extra rain.

It' not the rain that annoys me, it just when it clouds over and nothing happens.

Cheers

It could be much much worse though.
Imagine how it'd be if there was another big comet up there that we were missing out on. I for one could not tolerate that experience again.

Your not wrong Jeanette. My biggest problem is I've got my Omani friends coming over in a weeks time and we'd like a month of good weather for a change.

You'd think so, but I don't think they will be as they are coming over here for astronomy purposes.
