OK tried my new solar filter today uses the film in a cell. Not one of those expensive HA filter, well if I'm doing things right there's not one sunspot to be seen, the suns perfect not one blemish

Drats thats the whole idea otherwise it's boring.

From my vantage point in the hills, any solar filter would return a blank solar disk today I would take a photo of the clouds to show, but a 50% gray filled BMP would serve the same purpose! Almost perfect flat gray cloud horizon to horizon.

wow, how interesting ... from here in Stoneville it looks like the cloud goes on for ever, completely uniform

I also hope for your sake it doesn't spread your direction I'm not so fussed by it as I wouldn't be doing solar viewing anyhow, so will happily keep it for now

Unfortunately that's right, Trevor. My PST shows no visible surface features at present - just a couple of faint proms that your solar film filter won't show you. Solar minimum isn't the ideal time for white light observing, I'm afraid.

Still, it's a beautiful day here in Perth, especially after Saturday's wild weather.

I had to wait almost 2 months after buying my solar film before I saw a few sun spots at the start of this year. Still waiting for more.
