C2006Q1McNaught

Dear All
I had a go at this little dim object in Vela on 29/1/08
It is moving slowly but discernibly between the images. It is a stack of 4x 5min exposures. I have had to stack on the stars as it is too close to a star to stack on the comet head without the star interfering. It is only a lum file taken with my genesis KAF0401E CCD through my VC200L but it does show the coma.
Field is 9 x 14 arcmin.

Nice image Terry.
Have you looked at putting together a gif movie of the frames to show the movement?

How do you do this? What program is needed?
I would like to give it a go.

Nice image of a faint target Terry

It is possible to make an animated GIF with free software using GIMP. Not saying it is easy (though it's not hard either) but at least the software is free.

I think ImageReady which comes with Photoshop does animated gif's, but never tried making one.
I know that it has a special window showing all the individual frames if I open an anigif with it tho.

Nicly done Terry on a very dim object.

To create an animated GIF. You will need a program like FireWorks or Flash to create a sequence of them. You just load each image into a layer and give the layer an interval to play before it moves onto the next layer. Then simply export the image as a gif file.

Try Google for specific programs for creating an animation. Although I haven't made one yet, give it a try and see how it goes.

Hope this helps

I use Jasc Animation Shop. I don't know when I got the software. Maybe of one of those Mag disks?
Hint, align frames before you import them into gif otherwise it is too jumpy to watch.
I look forward to seeing what you come up with Terry.

If you wish, post the 4 images & I'll put it together for you.

I have succeeded using a program I already had (but didn't realise I had) called Animation Shop. It came with paintshop pro 5.
So here it is.
