New Post Indicators problem

Guys and Gals,

I'm not sure if anyone else is having problems with the New Post indicators, or the "New Posts" search.

I'm getting problems where you go to the index, see a bunch of new post indicators for some sub-forums, click on the sub-forum, and the new post indicator is gone and all posts are marked as read. Makes it a real pain finding new posts.

Anyone else having this problem?

We're working on trying to fix it but it seems a couple of other users are experiencing on other VB forums. A new version of VB (3.5) is being released as beta in a few weeks which has "real" post read indicators, none of this cookie timeout stuff. We'll have to see what's in the release and how the upgrade works before deciding to take the plunge.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Also tell us if new posts are being displayed properly. That is, if the forum is working fine for you.
Either way, tell me what browser you're using as a matter of interest.

Thanks.
Trying to track down the problem.

Moving to general chat, so more people will see it and respond Symptoms are:

1. Been away from the forums for > 15 minutes
2. Visit the forums, and in the index page (forum home page), you see new post indicators on some sub-forums
3. Click "new posts", or go into a sub-forum, and no new posts appear.

Let us know if it's happening to you, cause it's affecting mojo and I and we're trying to find a pattern.

Oh that. I used to get that on the old platform as well . I just thought it was from the the cached home page not getting updated often enough. If that's what happens???? No yes

Neither do I Basically, if when I came back onto the site after 15 minutes or so the main index would show new posts but when I click on the view new posts link I'd get Sorry no new posts yadda yadda.

Don't seem to have that problem now with the new forum setup. Though if I've viewed all the new posts, when I come back to the main index it shows them as still unread until I click on "Mark Forums Read"

Did that help?

I've had that since I joined.
Click new posts, read new posts, go to main forum, shows unread posts, go to forum with unread post icon, no unread posts, marking forum as read fixes the problem

Edit: I'm using Firefox 1.0.4

yeah that's not the problem though. that's how vbulletin does its new post tracking. that is, badly.
the new vbulletin version that's coming is supposed to have proper read/unread post tracking.

i'm more concerned that new posts don't show up at all at the moment.
