Recently, I gave a talk for the Astronomical Society of South Australia. The subject being "planetary imaging some issues and concepts". It went off quite well and as a result I have been asked by the Astronomical Society of Victoria to make the same presentation on the 12 of September 2007. Dean Davidson nominated me as the ASSA guest speaker in the exchange speaker program for this year and I have accepted the invitation.
This is a real honour and a privilege to present the concepts that encompass this part of our hobby. I am not suggesting that I am an expert, but I give my interpretation of the information out there in cyberland and the benefit of my own experiences.
I want to promote this part of the hobby and I am therefore inviting people to come along and hear of some first hand experiences and an explanation of the issues and concepts.
The presentation commences at 8pm on the above date at the ASV meeting site. I hope to see some of you there.
I know that it is held in the botannical gardens in a building, I am being driven around so that is all I can tell you. You are right the site is a little ellusive.
Your presentation was mentioned last night at the meeting. Finding the venue is pretty easy, look on the Melways for the Herbarium building...and that's were to go. There is usually heaps of parking alongside "The Tan", I parked about 200m away last night.
Look forward to seeing you next month, I will try to catch you after the meeting.
i went to the botanical garden observatory in june on the way to the planetary camp. looks like a great setup if this meeting is where it appears to be.
Well back from my trip to Victoria and wanted to thank the guys that turned up to see my presentation. I hope that I presented lots of information that you could understand.
I also wanted to thank Barry Adcock and his wife for billetting me for the night and the great hospitality that both the ASV and the Adcocks supplied.
I enjoyed passing on the information to all the people there and was later swamped with questions.
Nice to finally meet Eric and One of One. Sorry I did not get to talk to you more I got distracted and was all over the place.
There were about 70 people there and I am sure I enlightened a few members of the ASV with some of the new techniques being employed and in particular the whole concept of Mirror cooling.
I made a point of crediting Anthony with the whole idea of mirror cooling and spoke a lot about his R&D and was even asked Anthony's web address. I simply stated that you should google Bird's Astronomy and that will give you the site.
Well I am tired now and it has been a busy day. Thanks once again.
