It has been and will be a long week!

As the title suggests, it has been and will be some long weeks ahead.

My wife had to take Campbell to the hospital on Friday...He is now in the intensive care unit at Westmead Children's Hospital...

The doctors believe that he has type 1 juvenile diabetes...

While we were surprised at the unexpected diagnosis (no family history), reviewing the "classic" symptoms of the this disease with what he has exerienced over the last few weeks makes it look they are right...

It is a managable thing with a little effort and lifestyle management he should be fine...sorry guys, looks like Cam won't be bringing chocolate biscuts to Kulunura (or enjoying hedgehogs)...but he should be able to attend.

I am sure that I have a fair amount of learning ahead of me so that I can help him lean to make good choices with respect to sugar levels...

Anyway, if I am an irregular poster of the next few days, you will know why...

Clear Skies All...

I'm sorry to hear about Campbell, Scott. Please pass on my best wishes to him. I imagine it's going to be quite an upheaval in life and lifestyle, but I guess there are many people who manage their lives living with it, so please just stay positive.

I look forward to seeing you and Campbell again soon!

Cam should be home from the hospital by Wednesday...he was pleased to be remembered!

My wife and I are learning how to test his blood sugar levels and administer insulin when and as needed...funny how we all get the opportunity to deal with our own adversities.

We are definitely in for some adjusments in lifestyle (mostly in learning how to be prepared) but change is a good thing...it is all doable and hopefully can help keep him healthy and happy!

Cheers All!

Scott,

I wish your family all the best.

What's with the massive increase in child diabetes these days?

Just got back from the hospital...Cam is now home...although we have to go back tomorrow for a check-up.

I am now schooled in the art of testing blood sugar levels and administering insulin.

It is good to be home!

Glad to hear he's now home, Scott.

Diabetes is a right pain in the rear (I'm a diabetic) but you'll soon learn to adjust your lifestyle to accommodate Cam and you and the rest of your family will benefit from the changes. There's a wealth of information out there today about it, don't be frightened to utilise it.

Stay positive Scott, for your son's sake. I know it's hard, I have six children and that's a big ask but you find courage you never thought you had.
I pray that your son has a full recovery and that there's a cure.

Regards
Lydia

Best wishes with your son.
As one who has had to manage this disease from the other side of the desk I wish you well. It is very manageable but will change your lifestyle a bit.
