Casting stuff.

I remember when I cast a part for one of my piers...a lot harder than it looks and I have never been so proud of one of my achievements...but if you have the time just look at what is possible using the same humble technique that I employed but on a greater scale...

There are quiet a few of videos similar to this one showing how it is done in places where health and safety is an unknown concept.

I notice they are all wearing safety boots, the well ventilated open toed variety. Other than that,WOW!

Wow, heat resistant sandals and invisible safety glasses.
That explains why we don't manufacture in Aus any more.


I didn't realise the oil made the sand like concrete.
OK, I was VERY wrong, reading the comments it's not oil they use. I'm more familiar with green sand casting which uses oil to compress and hold the sand together.

I've played with small brass castings (rough) using plaster for a mould and a bit of aluminium when younger but haven't done any sand casting.
I wouldn't want the job of tipping absolutely every bit of steel scrap they could find into the furnace. It didn't look particularly safe.
