Makes sense. The market has shifted to mirrorless systems. That's where their focus will be, and as a smaller company compared to Canon or Sony, it doesn't make sense to keep investing in a system that's being eclipsed by mirrorless cameras.

The end of an era.

And in other sobering news, DPReview is being shuttered by Amazon.

Sort of sad, an end of an era from my old 35mm Nikon film cameras to my D80 and D810.
I stayed with Nikon because I had a reasonable collection of F lenses which are compatible with Nikon digital and Nikon mirrorless with an adapter I believe but I can neither afford a new mirrorless camera or new lenses.
Hopefully my D810 I bought used will last me for years.
Though mirrorless does excite me with the lack of weight, especially attached to the back of a telescope.
I suppose if I was going to spend anywhere near that money for astronomy I'd go with a dedicated astro camera.

Hi Guys,
I never bought a full frame DSLR as the lenses cost too much.
My old DSLR is a Canon EOS1000d with a smaller APS-C sensor. 22.2 mm x 14.8 mm
and I just used the kit lens supplied and a telephoto lens that I bought for $220.00
They are not as sharp as more expensive lenses.

Canon has finally put a mirrorless full frame 35mm camera on to the market
to replace the old fashioned DSLR cameras:

https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/c...ideo?CID=EOS+R

$2,519.00
Key features
30.3 megapixel Full Frame Canon CMOS sensor
4K time-lapse movies
up to 8 fps continuous shooting

Then you need an expensive lens to fit to it as full frame lens cost a lot of money.
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/c...4l-is-usm-lens

$2,099.00
Canon RF 24-105 F4L IS USM Lens
Key features

Lens control ring for intuitive shooting
5 stop Image Stabilizer
Nano USM for movie shooting with quiet & smooth AF.

or:
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/c...-1-2l-usm-lens

$4,099.00
Canon RF 50mm f/1.2L USM Lens
The RF 50mm f/1.2L does not have an image stabilizer.

cheers
Allan

Sad but inevitable, most people seem to be happy with their phone pix these days. My Nikon D3 bought in 2007 is still going as beautifully as ever, only needed 1 service in almost 16 years of continual use and that was just a sensor clean and new glass on the rear screen…….

It's a shame that companies are stopping the production of 'large body' cameras like DSLRs.

For people with big hands (like me!) the smaller cameras are a total pain in the arse to operate. I looked at a Sony A6000 back in 2014 and there was no way I could operate it. The Nikon D7100 that I bought was much easier to drive with sensible button sizes and spacing.

too funny ;-)

maybe they are looking through the long lens of history...and only have a small aperture of time before they can no longer capture the market,
and risk losing exposure...

Sorry - i have no filter - i'll shutter my mouth now....

Reciprocity failure came back to haunt them.

You'd have though Nikon lenses would have matched the Z series but no now Im too far down the rabbit hole for format change. The only bright light, those "top shelf" DSLRs are going to be more affordable.... hopefully
Certain lenses , predominately AF-S, can be used on the Z bodies with the Nikon FTZ-II adapter.
