Reality Check

Last Wednesday I had resigned myself to losing the obs and it's contents, due to the expanding fire at Hill End / Tambaroora. Located where a simple and predicted wind change would have dumped the embers on us in less than 45mins.

Luckily, 8mm at 0030hrs this morning have given us a bit of a reprieve.

Delighted to read the gauge this morning, despite the expired ash /burnt leaf which was also in there.

Life in the bush!

Mate I am so happy to hear that.
I know what it is like and it is hard to think of anything worse when it is coming your way.

Just before I joined here we lost everything to a fire..well fortunately not the main house as I was fixing it up but we had everything in another shack..all gone..we had a table, three chairs, a bed, a change of clothes ...not much else but all the furniture, photos, projects, books, ( we each had a huge library ) the outboard motors, pumped, generator, materials, chain saws, guitars etc etc etc all gone...we were so stunned it really did not register fortunately as we were in a daze for at least weeks...but in time I accumulated many fold that junk...but one thing you learn that stuff is just stuff.

And when it was approaching it was like you could not escape..we assembled at the end of the road, then moved another ten klms and then again into town..I was last in the line (partner and daughter were in our car up front) and my truck stopped and no one noticed and I was left there alone in fear but thank goodness another human appeared and got me out...but the truck survived which I could not believe...

Build a bunker...I have been going to for over twenty years and it is easy to put off...but that way you can save a great deal if set up right.

Maybe that can be my next project...

Good luck

Alex
