APP Astrophotography Competition: Entries close in 8 days - 5pm AEST July 3rd

The 2023 Australian Photographic Prize is proud to announce the launch of the new Astrophotography Competition with two categories, Astro Deep Space and Astro Landscape.

Astrophotographers who spend hours at the telescope and behind the computer capturing the beauty and wonder of the night sky, can now showcase their talent, skill, and scientific and artistic flare at the Australian Photographic Prize.

A panel of experienced scrutineers and judges, collectively proficient in and familiar with astrophotography's specialised techniques and science, will critique and assess the entries. Uniquely, the top 25 entries for each category will be judged live at Photography Studies College in Melbourne on July 21, 2023 between 2:30-5:30 PM.

After the judging, there will be a presentation by leading Australian Astrophotographer ‘Strongman’ Mike Sidonio.

Enter NOW for your chance to win a William Optics Redcat 51 Telescope (valued at $1500).

One thing to clarify please
"To avoid misuse of Ai processing, the scrutineers may ask about your processing method and request the original Raw or Fits image files. Entries are submitted as digital entries."
Does that mean you can't use blurxterminator or Topaz denoise?

The takeaway here is the word "Misuse".

If your image is captured with a DSLR on an 80mm refractor, with details surpassing the Hubble's, your files may be requested for scrutineering!

The judges will likely bauk at anything that looks impossible using conventional equipment.

Use of Topaz & Russ Croman's Ai apps is acceptable, but if looks overdone? Well you get the point....
