C925 Edge Learning Curve

Still trying to tame this scope.

A full moon added to the challenge.

Inspired to shoot this target by fellow IIS members.

Alot to learn still at the FL.

Great effort Dilshan. I feel your pain trying to tame a 9.25. I’m not huge on the teal hue but the detail is wonderful and a great target to use such a long focal length on. Nice work

Good detail revealed here well done! Do you have the focal reducer or shooting at native fl? There’s certainly some challenges at longer fl but I love the detail and extra targets that are accessible so keep learning and pushing forward. Looks like you’ve got guiding etc working nicely and stars look great. If you’re able to share any other acquisition/processing details there could be some other tips people here could share to help you on the curve.
Nice work

Thanks Ryan and David,

Workflow was with PI. Stacked in PI, dynamic crop. BlurX and NoiseX, Screen trasnfer, 50%/50% colour combination with SHO and Foraxx. Luminance added as Ha channel but channel was terrible due to poor flats to used O2 channel as luminance. Washed out all the colour. Had to do some dodgy Curve work to get some colour back.

Worked out my flats were bad due to short exposure time causing banding with QHY camera.

What colour combinations do you guys used? Wanted to try get a natural "red" nebula with my next narrowband shot.

Cheers guys,

Dilshan

Hi Dilshan,

I’m convinced it’s a problem with my eyes, my taste or my screen but I’m finding myself recommending pulling back on the green to a lot of people at the moment. Since you asked though, that’s what I’ve done. I’ve pulled back on the green tint and warmed the image slightly too. I feel it gives the images a more natural balance but as I’ve said, this maybe just me ?

Cheers

Ryan

Thors helmet has a lot of O3 - I think if i remember correctly if you do a H-HO-O blend you will 'naturally' get more blue than green. nice detail.

Thanks Russell. Will try HOO next time. I felt this image was overwhelmed by blue. I guess that is an issue with shooting Narrowband when one channel is so intense. I really like the natural colour of this nebula. Harder to recreate. I think I need more "curve" skills.

Cheers,

Dilshan

A stunning result. The amount of detail surprised me big time. Perhaps a tad oversharpened?

The colour is the easy bit, getting that detail is not.

Hey Greg,

Using a new decon technique. I think i dialled the sharpening a bit too much I agree. Hats off though to the scope. I have only worked with refractors and I am amazed at the detail with this Schmidt Cassegrain.

Thanks for the kind words.

wow, impressive indeed. Different. in fact the colour pallet makes it stand out and the sharpness is impressive, i wont bother zooming in to see if its oversharp, it just looks great as is. I love this unique presentation, i get tired of cooky cutter processing.
