Who Was James Webb

Ok. Whilst exhibiting typical male behaviour in surfing through the channels I stopped on Channel 10 because a program called The Cheap Seats had Dr Matt Agnew on discussing the recent release of the images from JWT.

One of the hosts asked Dr Agnew a question which I found disappointing he, as a self-confessed Space Nerd, didn't know the answer to.

Who was James Webb?

Out of curiosity ..Knowing there are Science lovers on this sire ...How many people, off the top of their head without Googling know the answer to this question?

I knew the answer but then I am obsessed with NASA particularly from the 60's to the 90's.

I'm aware of a few things, unfortunately most of it comes from the recent call to rename the telescope. The reporting angle included a small write up of James Webb's background work, but it was bias in its approach.
