Daytime Conjunction

Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn captured from Dunedin yesterday afternoon, less than 1.5h after solar noon and about 7.5h after closest conjunction. Horrible spring weather meant our only chance to capture this with the obsy's main tube came during the day. We went for it and were rewarded. Target was close to meridian. Captured video, and yes, both planets were visible in the eyepiece too, though Saturn took some effort. Raw shot attached to give an idea of the visual experience. The donuts are defocused crud. The moons left and right of Jupiter in the processed image are Europa and Io.

Were treated to a stunning view at night as well, from a spot close to the city and high above the cloud that had moved in from the sea - but with much less time to set up and image. An incredible sight through the refractor. Sure don't see that every day...

Two exposure runs to expose for different features.
Rotated and mirrored to approximate actual orientation.
