First ever galaxy, i am hopeless with processing and really mucked it up, so a dear friend in the US offered to reprocess the TIFF in Pixinsight that i stacked with DSS.
Thank you Bill, i have much to learn mate.Click image for larger version

Looks pretty good to me 😃
I’ve had a go at a couple of galaxies and just can’t get it right.

That’s a nice image of a difficult galaxy with an 80mm scope
Well done !!
Be careful with the 10” as your image scale maybe way way over sampled depending on the camera ??
I use an 8” newt with my Canon 600D and my image scale is around 0.90 arc sec per pixel so slightly over sampled which works well for me when imaging galaxies and processing

Thanks for the positive replies guys.
Not sure about over sampling, I am very green about this.
My only cameras are both Canon 300D's, will over sampling effect the image with these and the 10 inch?

Tony
If your 10” newt is an f5 so about 1250mm focal length then your imaging system with the Canon 300D should be ok for sampling

Your advised to use a coma corrector for your camera though as stars will be coma affected in the outer region or off axis area of your image
Baader MCCP coma correctors work really well to eliminate coma

Refer calcs below

Sampling and Image Scale

Canon 300D
Pixel size 7.3uM

10” f5 newt focal length 1250mm ?

Over sampling < 1.0 arc sec per pixel
Good Sampling 1.0 to 2.0 arc sec per pixel
Under sampling > 1.0 arc sec per pixel

P = pixel size x 206.3 \ focal length

Therefore
7.3 x 206.3 \ 1250 = 1.20 arc sec per pixel

This imaging set up will sample correctly

Cheers
Martin
