Space Types
Hi Y'all,
Not sure if this has been covered elsewhere, but what personality types are out there in IIS? I'm an INFJ...
Also, I miss the sky...smoke, cloud for the past four months or so...man oh man....

That's a Meyer-Briggs personality type isn't it? I did that test ages ago so I've forgotten the details but I think I am a WTF - I know I heard the shrink say that.

Yes it is a Myers Brigg category system. My whole organisation did that testing decades ago, I was an INTJ. I found the testing related to decision making styles to be much more useful in real life. Myers Brigg is still first year uni Business Psychology topic, but only an indicator of where a natural tendancy might lie, not something that can be counted on as a rule. Savy people, aware of their natural type, can act out of type when required, consultants are a good example.

Looks like I'm an INFJ-A - Advocate
That explains why I love getting out under the stars by myself to recharge the batteries.

Same here, INTJ. I find myself often clashing heads with some at work, who do things "the way they've always been done". Yeah, nah - there's always a better way if one can be bothered to look.

Yup, it probably does! Male INFJ's are very rare...I've only met one other (that I know of)...

Yep, I'm an introvert too, in fact it was by far my strongest trait. I am 96% introvert, a figure that feels a bit low, but the next strongest was 43/57 for tactics. Yesterday I was an INFP-T but today I'm a INFJ-T and both of those are different from what I was 20 years ago.
As an INFJ-T I am a rare bird (something I've noticed). Supposedly I see helping others as my goal and am likely to be involved in charity or rescue work. That doesn't sound like me at all, I thought I was self-focused. The good news is that I share this personality type with Aragon, son of Arathorn. [Pity I didn't get the girl ]

Whilst I was actually quite serious in my earlier response albeit, meant in a somewhat light hearted manner...
I am in fact an INFP-T.. pretty much have been all my life...
I repeated the test just now but, underwent it several times during my career as Defence went looking for answers on what made good leaders, gaining an understanding of oneself to be a better leader, etc....
Interesting that I came up the same now as I had in the past..
Read the associated explanation of this personality type & yep.. pretty much nailed me.. bit scary reading about what makes you tick & not necessarily liking all that you read...
Still think my original response is entirely appropriate to describing me though...

Haha, yeah, thanks Carlton...I'm sure you're earlier response conveyed some needed info!
I've looked extensively at "typology" over the years. About 45 people have told me the 16P test was accurate so there is more to it than luck methinks...16P blends The Big 5 (supposedly the only "scientific typology framework") and Myers Briggs...INFP and INFJ have many differences and being both is really not possible...when we do the test, the difficulty is how to answer some of the more 50/50 questions...anyway, this is an astronomy site so I'd better shut up...

Lol.. you haven't yet touched on religion, politics or climate change so, possibly still safe...
Yeah, I must admit on some of the questions where I answered in the lower spectrum.. I hovered between agree/disagree/neutral...
Having spent longer than I care to remember in management/leadership roles I think the reality is a lot fuzzier than any of those tests make out...
In my experience, people do not neatly fit into pidgeon holes which is essentially what all of these tests seek to do.. I'm not saying they aren't useful.. they are, as guidance but, only as guidance..
Life is a complex experience... on any given day there are many pressures & depending on how one is dealing with today's pressure, I think we can all range between the variety of personality types in truth...
Our predominant personality may fit neatly with the test result but, our day to day nature is much more fluid & it takes a skilled manager/leader to understand the individuals & their complex moods, nature & thought processes to bring out the best in people...
Sometimes we get it right but, often, we get it so wrong... we build up a picture of how a colleague/subordinate/boss is & often fail to recognise that when they act in a manner differently to what we expected; there may be bigger things at play...
My 2 cents...
Oh, & one other..... there are personality traits in myself I absolutely detest... but, I'm buggered if I know how to actually change them.. like actually change them, not just mask them... it's not that they are 'bad' traits as such.. it's just that I don't like them in myself... fine in others.. not me though...

Sure, agree 100% about putting folks in a box. I think basic traits are with us from birth, but preference, life experience etc makes us all a little different...I've always enjoyed time to myself since I was young. I'd just "vanish" and I gain energy and inspiration from the inside out mostly. I knew that way before taking a test, but after taking it, I thought, Mmm, so that's why I've been like that...extroverted folks gain energy from being around people; I love people and helping them (I'm a nutritionist) but if I can't sit alone and "ponder" I get rather depressed and drained...
I think your views are quite balanced - we're all a little nuts...
