1943 Sydney maps

Check this site: http://maps.six.nsw.gov.au/
Enter your location and have a look at the current maps vs. 1943 imagery. Select Basemaps from the top right then use the slider to blend in.
Very cool to browse around known suburbs. Some features are still there today others changed a lot.

Very cool. I can see where my house now sits it used to be a patch of natural bushland back in 1943, explains the four ironbarks I have in my yard!

Thanks Marc!

I had my father in the car recently and as we came up North Rocks Road he told
me it was all farming and fruit orchards. The 1943 imagery brings it home.

We were driving down Church Street Parramatta and he pointed to what is today
a Mercedes dealership and said matter-of-factly that there was a blacksmiths there
when he was younger.

What's telling is though the most recent imagery looks like it was only done
within the last 12 months or so, the number of apartments that have gone
up since then in just a few small areas I checked has been staggering.

Anecdotally, what use to be one hour drives on a Saturday afternoon
through the suburbs of Sydney five years ago now routinely take one hour
and twenty minutes with the type of congestion you use to relate to at
peak hour on Monday morning.

True. Liverpool growth has been huge too. We have tower block popping up eveywhere now.
