Northern Jewel Box

I have been going through my files and found some of my old data. ..

If memory serves me well, it is my first astro-photo, taken in May 2013 with a G3 camera from a balcony in Rockdale in Sydney.

Full Resolution: http://www.astrobin.com/full/214226/0/

Now, please be gentle...

Thank you Rob, but I think the improvement you have mentioned is due to having better equipment...

I was hoping others would also share some of their early attempts at photographing wonders of the nightsky...

This was my first DSO; technically I'd taken some snapshots of the moon years beforehand but that doesn't really count :p

Spent the time since trying to get something as good lol.

Well, this wasn't my first - I've lost that, and from memory it was a blurry handheld pic from a point and shoot digital camera held to the eyepiece of my Newt pointing at Jupiter - bright spot with some blurry moons.

But, the first picture of mine that had me hooked was this one - taken with my 450D at prime focus, no corrector - hat held over the OTA at start and end of exposure when starting/stopping. Just about fell over and fainted when saw this on the viewfinder Took a few at 300sec and this was the only one without excess smearing.
