$350 for new Orion EQ3 mount + old 115mm Newtonian ?

Hi,

Just contemplating my first telescope, and have found a second hand example of an old Newtonian 4.5" (Skywatcher?) with 3 eyepieces plus a new OEM version of Orion AstroView, Celestron CG4, Skywatcher EQ3 mount.

Asking price is $350.

Given the mount can be bought brand new for only a little more (c. $400), does this represent OK value provided the telescope is serviceable?

There are similar Newtonians + EQ2 mount available for c. $250 - so I'm wondering whether the EQ3 mount is worth the extra money.

Thanks for any help you can give!

John

Yes and yes , the EQ3 mount is a good one for a scope of that size , they would work well together .
Have you used an eq. mount before ? , if not be prepared to learn its not that difficult and there is a good tutorial here in the beginners section .

And oh yes the EQ3 can be upgraded to full goto at a later date .

Brian.
