Pendriela Nebs.

15 x 45 secs @ 1600 and 15 x45 secs @ 3200.
I need longer subs, but still cannot get tracking
working properly.

Very pretty Ray. BTW you don't need longer subs, just more of them.

Thanks Kevin, they were just a few subs I took at the end of the session with chuckywiz when trying to fix my tracking problems. I actually need more AND longer subs. These 30 subs show no sign of the red around
the Pendant. My previous try with longer subs showed the red quite clearly. If only the rain would go away.

You probably feel like you've hit a brick wall, but there's things you can do to improve. You really need to think about shooting in RAW. Jpeg is inferior in two ways, one they lose data in compression artifacts and two they are only 8 bit. The 1100D in RAW mode is 14 bit. That extra bit depth lets you stretch the image much further before it hits the noise floor. What are your computer specs that stop you using RAW mode?

Processing in DSS is also limiting. Photoshop is so much more flexible. Just learn one new process per week. In a year that's 52!

For longer subs you could always drop on a guidescope with reticle eyepiece.

Oddly enough I don't feel like I've hit a wall. I have an 80mm achro and
reticle EP ready for when I go back to manual guiding. I just have to get
my damn mount working properly. One time I get eggs after 3 or 4
seconds, another time I can get round stars at 120, or even 150 secs.
My eyesight is going downhill; I now struggle to be sure that my stars
are round. I won't be getting much done anytime soon; lucky to get one night in 20 for imaging over winter.

Nice picture , looked on the web for pendriela and couldn't find anything that resembled that name. Where in the sky is it, and does it go by another designation?

I'm so sorry for confusing you Philip. I sometimes forget that this is a beginner's forum, and that not everyone would pick up on the mix of parts of the two names. There are two objects shown in the pic. At left is The Gabriela Mistral Neb. [NGC 3324], and at right is The Pendant [NGC 3293]. I did it to shorten the thread title a bit. These objects are adjacent to The Eta Carina Neb. [NGC 3372].
