SBIG STL-11000M and SBIG Remote Guide Head

Hi all,

I'm selling one of my STL-11000M's.

I bought this brand new in 2010 and used it to make a few very lovely images as can be found in the Deep Space sub-forum.

It has recently been to SBIG for a service and check-up. It was sent back with a clean bill of health and a new desiccant, o-ring and new handles.

Ever since I bought it, the self guide chip was slightly off from being orthogonally-planar with the main sensor. This meant that I had slightly fatter stars on the guide chip when the main sensor was in focus. This was not a problem; in fact, finding centroids on fat stars is easier for guide algorithms. But, this became a problem when doing any kind of narrowband work when the SNR was not high enough to latch on to stars in a reasonable exposure time.

So, this was also fixed while at SBIG headquarters.

Now, before being sent off to SBIG, my sensor developed what looked like a crack in the bottom left corner of the chip. I initially thought that it was the glass chamber that had cracked, but, Bill at SBIG said that it was the coverslip on the sensor itself and this cannot be fixed. Well, it can, but, would require a new sensor.

The pixels under the crack still work, but, the cracked coverslip casts a shadow on to the pixels and therefore a line appears in the exposure. This, however, is not a problem, as if you dither between exposures and use proper flat frames, then, the artefact gets rejected during calibration and processing.

I am offering the camera at $4,000 but will entertain near offers.

Included:

SBIG STL-11000M
LRGB + 10nm hydrogen alpha filters
SBIG Remote Guide Head
USB cable
ST4 guiding serial cable
2" nose piece
Power cable and power supply
Pelican case and spare bits and pieces that came with the package

I'm willing to deliver within a 300 km radius of Canberra, or pick up welcome. Postage will be via Pack 'n' Send at buyer's cost.

Any questions: email me at octane2 AT optusnet DOT com DOT au

I prefer email as my IIS inbox is at 99% and I don't want to miss any messages.

Please leave a message here stating that you've gotten in touch.

Regards,
H

Thanks, David!

I was thinking of you when I put this ad up (saw you asking a little while ago over on astro buy/sell on FB, where this ad was going to go next!).

Will reply.
