"Southern Cross" under the Southern Cross

Hi all,

I drove past this spot (about an hour's drive west of Brisbane) one afternoon in the recent school holidays, and thought it would be worth revisiting on a clear Moonless night for a bit of nightscape imaging. So I returned last night, and here's the result!

Single 20 sec exposure with Canon 50D and 35mm f/2 lens @ f/2.8, 3200 iso.

Cheers,
Stephen

Great image Stephen! Did it really say "Southern Cross" on the windmill or did you somehow Photoshop that in?? That's perfect!

Thanks Jason! Yes, it did say Southern Cross on the windmill! As I was driving past a couple of weeks ago, I thought the windmill would be an interesting foreground for a nightscape, but when I got closer and saw what was written, I thought of this shot .

Cheers,
Stephen

Thanks very much Marc and Ingrid!

(I've just substituted the original image with a reprocessed version, and added a second image.)

Cheers,
Stephen

Yes, I had seen the theme for next year... in fact I went and re-captured it with my new 6D the other night, with that in mind! (And the 6D gave a much better result!)

Cheers,
Stephen
