Trifid

While I was waiting for Helix to rise I decided to try the Trifid Nebula with my Stock Canon 100D.

Meade SC8. 20 Subs at 3 Mins each. 5 Darks. Stock Canon 100D.

A nice result from the stock 100D. Was this with the reducer?

Now I think about it the reducer was probably in. I would have put it in when I first went to Helix and found it was too low.

EDIT, Looking at the size of the Nebula in the frame the Focal reducer was not used.

Hi Charles,

A very nice Trifid nebula. Well done ! The colour aspect is very pleasing, and something that I don't often get to see myself.

Regards,
Tony Barry

Thanks, I have done it before with the Modded Camera but never tried with the stock Camera. I am glad I did. I never thought the stock camera would do it so well.

Hi Mosc,
just wondering if you did not use the reducer, did you use your scope or piggyback and what F ratio and iso did you use.

Regards
Kon

Hello Kon,

I really don't recall for certain weather I had the F6.3 Focal reducer on or not.

I did have it on for Helix so possably it was already on when I did Trifid. Which means F6.3 with the Meade SC8.

Yep. I always guide when imaging. Using an Orion Starshoot auto guider.

With the Modded Camera I only needed 30 second subs but the Blue reflection was missing. The Stock Camera was greatly improved for this object.
