I fall down....

Hi gang, last night was looking to be an excellent seeing, so I put out the 12" dob and waited till it got dark outside. After dinner I head outside missing the top step on the veranda falling between the steps. I hit the ground twisting my ankle. Very sore boy this morning hobbling around on one foot. The lesson here is wait until your eyes adjust to the dark before bolting off to the telescope. I never did get to the telescope to have a look.

Ouch, that sounds painful. Commiserations. Just a bit too enthusiastic. You didn't happen to get a few days off work did you?

Try using an eye patch put it on well before you go out and put it back on if you need to come back in for a coffee etc.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery

ankle injury

Doug, here's a bit of free advice for you!

Ankle injuries -most common are lateral ligament complex injuries so if you have an egg on the outside of the foot then that's what you have got-usually anterior talofibular ligament first that goes.
Once these are torn or stretched then the ankle becomes unstable so it re-injures more easily, especially on uneven ground. So be careful for quite a while afterwards.
The joint sense is damaged as well so your body is not as aware of the position of the ankle, causing more issues.
My advice - keep off it, strap it, use crutches and allow slow recovery. Physio helps if you can get access and if it is not improving get an Ultrasound to help diagnosis.
Oh and luminescent tape on the stairs?
Hope you get better soon
Cheers

You are right there Graham , I broke my ankle about 15 years ago and every now and then I will step on something wrong and tho it does not pain me but it just feels weak ? , just not right and its not a nice feeling remembering the pain and long recovery it took me to come right after this injury .

I know the pain you are going thru Doug , as said , take your time as said these injuries do take a long time to come right .

Brian.

What he said....
I should have talked to Dr Graham 30 years ago...
2 broken ankles, 10 plus other broken bones, trashed knee, screwed shoulder and elbow later... I'm thinking "Bullet"!
Now, for Docs. assessment

Hi Doc,

Yes, I have an egg (swelling) on the ankle & below that is a lateral bruise about 4" long. Pain has almost all gone now & the swelling is going down.
I'm staying off it as much as possible & using a walking stick to take the weight off. As to Physio, Ultrasound & doctors...Ha! nearest is 70klm away.

Took a small tumble myself last weekend. On regular Sunday morning 2 hour walk. Stood on a white painted speed bump on a steep hill and had my foot slide away. I fortunately had the sense to let it go and roll as I hit the ground so bruised my hip, elbow and shoulder but otherwise no damage.

It can happen anytime .. take care.
