A Beach Nightscape

Was down in Coffs Harbour last week and I thought I'd try and see if I could get a few images out to sea.

The sky was actually pretty dark, so I took this pano, 18 images in 3 rows with my little GX-1 and a 20mm 1.7 lens. 20 seconds each, ISO 1600.

The GX-1 is hardly an ideal nightscape camera but I'm pretty happy with how the image turned out.

What do you reckon?

Cheers
Jo

Beautiful image Jo!! Looks superb!

I have the panny 20mm 1.7 as well and find its great for low light but find the focus ring just shifts at the slightest touch :-(. Unfortunately I haven't figured out the panaroma on my oly yet...but will give it a whirl as soon as the killer moon goes away.

Love the shot.

Wow, that's a really great result. Even caught a meteor trail on the right hand side of the image. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Win

The 20mm is a great lens, your right about focus, at lest it's quick to fix if there is a bright star or planet around.

Looking forward to some of your images, which camera have you got, the EM-5?

Jo

Hi Jo

I have an epl5 which is the model down from the omd. It was a bit easier on the wallet:-). I got the panny 20mm and thr samyang 7.5 fisheye which I love using but waiting for the samyang 10mm due out soon (apparently) sometimes I wish I had got the omd due to the view finder but the epl5 is quite impressive as well...

That worked out very well. I like the colours in the sky on the right. Some nice airglow there.

Good to see some other cameras being used. Different brands can sometimes bring a slightly different look due to different jpeg and white balance engines.

Greg.

Yep, still a great camera, hope to see some pics from it
What is the f stop for the 7.5? I have used the 7-14mm which is good but a bit slow at f4.

Thanks a lot Greg

It's the first time I have got noticeable amounts of airglow, has it got something to do with being further south?

Nice shot, I agree the little bit of colour in the sky on the right looks great, the small bit of cloud on the horizon looks great as well

the samyang goes down to a 3.5 Jo which is pretty reasonable and still sharp as a tack even at that. I take mostly night shots so works well for me at longer exposures…I didn't really think the micro 4/3 would work well for night shots but I am amazed by what it can do so now its my main camera and so easy to lug around as I travel a fair bit …have posted a few in the iceinspace before and some others in instagram @wrangan.
Great to see a fellow Micro 4/3 nightscaper :-)
