Darks skies

North Korea seems like the ideal place for astro with its dark skies but that's about the only incentive to go there that I can think of...

Yeah. On a more serious note, I don't like the way a buoyant economy always seems to go hand-in-hand with massive light pollution (or any pollution for that matter). Poor buggers on China's eastern seaboard don't get to see any star other than the sun (maybe) most times. In North Korea the stargazing from your backyard is great, except you can't afford a back yard. Reverse is the case for us westerners. So wrong.

Yup - got told off because the led on the back of my old QHY8 was green instead of red when it downloaded subs every 10min or so. Painted it since.

Fascinating. And it's interesting how the entire border between the North/South is clearly lit up. I recall seeing a similar image showing the brightly lit border between, I think, India and Pakistan.

Hi Marc,

What they lack in impressive light pollution they might make up for with an
appetite for powering "P2-type" centrifuges.

You never know what's cooking in the dark with the guy in charge. Had a feeling all the power would be used for 'something else'.
