Made the pilgrimage on Saturday to get up close & personal with a NZ icon, Mt Taranaki. The sunrise ascent commenced at 4.00am, so provided some good night photo ops during approach and climb. Here are a few shots of that. Also one from the top showing Egmont's shadow reaching out towards the Tasman (about 30kms away). No photo will do the views justice though, they were INSANELY spectacular. Not surprising, given you are 2.5 vertical kilometres above most of the surrounding area.
Nice shots. That mountain shadow is spectacular and rather science-fiction like - I almost expect to be able to turn round and see an incredibly large spaceship hanging in the sky (in much the same way that bricks don't).
