Granite Island

Went down to Granite Island last night to capture any possible aurora but only came away with airglow and a nice shot.

There are so many really nice shaped rocks there, I will most likely image there a lot in the coming year.

Wow, nice one Paul. Is that a mix of both green and red airglow?
I wish I had a decent camera for nightscapes. But then again, I don't know where I'd find the time to take them - only if I automate my setup fully

Yeah a really nice result Paul, despite the lack of Aurora

Nice shot Paul
Only this morning i was thinking of driving down there tonight, as it's expected to be pretty strong isnt it? I know that they're all excited about it in Tassy, but it's a 2hr drive for me and a school night and all.
How do you distinguish between airglow and aurora anyway?
If i'd taken that shot, i'd be thinking i'd got it slightly.
Cheers

Bob

Yes it looks to be a mix of both Rolf, that does not happen very often here but nice to capture.

G3 storm expected tonight. It might be worth the drive. Moon will be around to after 1am, but if it gets up to kp7 at G3 levels it will be about 15-20 degrees above the horizon and will be picking up photographically. Time will tell.

I am planning on being on Granite island tonight with all my gear.
