NGC 300 - First attempt

Hi there,

It's cloudy in Melbourne so I'm finally processing/posting an image that I shot last month, my first go at NGC 300, darn faint little thing it is too!

Not nearly enough data gathered at 9x10 mins either. I've stretched the heck out of it to get something that resembles a galaxy, but it's a loooong way from decent.

Goes to show that there's no substitute for photons on these little babies.

Thanks for looking anyway.

Andy

NGC300 has very low surface brightness and is difficult to image at the best of times. You have done well in your pic!

Hi Andy. As previously mentioned this is a very faint object. More data will bring in some more detail, but very nice interim image.

In agreement to the others: From my experience, the surface brightness makes 300 a bit harder than similar sized galaxies.

Thanks for the feedback and encouragement folks.

I'm beginning to realize that there's just no substitute for loooooong exposures - usually 4-6 hrs of 10 min exposures are required for some of these mag 8 or more objects.

Cheers

AC

Not always. Always depends on the object. You can get some decent M83 images with around 2-3 hrs.
