First mod - GSO 10 inch dob

Well I've enjoyed this scope and being my forst DOB i was surprised by how much I had to crane over to see anything even at it's highest point. My back is semi shot and a nights session was killing me the next day.

So I made a box 440 mm exactly in height for the DOB to sit on. Testing it and it is perfect for my height. Viewing Saturn Saturday night very high in the sky I was standing upright at the eye piece, so comfy Through all it's height range it is immeasurably better on my back.

Box made up:

On box:

In action:

No added vibration or anything. Very happy!

Good idea. I always found the 8" hard on the back. An observing chair is a good idea such as this http://www.bintel.com.au/Accessories...oductview.aspx
These are a little exxy but you can make one. Sitting saves your feet which can get really sore on a cold night.

Cheers.

Yes I have looked at the chair and thanks for the link. I'm looking at making one in a few weeks as well however I actually prefer standing than sitting. With the DOB I find manually moving it over the sky it's 'up and down' all the time anyway. I'll post pics of the chair build in time. My next mission is a bracket for the iPad and iPhone for guidance assistance.

Each to their own but I am not a big fan of using iPhones and iPads while observing. Even dimmed down and with with red screen they are really bright and destroy night vision. The thing people often forget is that to preseve night vision you must use a DIM red light, I have painted red nail polish on my headlamps to reduce the light a bit as they are too bright natively, and screens are much brighter than my headlamps.
