Road to Where - B&W nightscape

I never do black & white's.. and yet, here's a B&W.

'Road to Where'

What do you think?

It's growing on me.

30s, ISO6400, 6D, Samyang 14mm. Converted to B&W in post.

- Large

Thanks for looking.

I think that shot looks more effective in BW than it would in colour, Mike

It's not bad at all Mike, but personally I find the colour ones much more appealling. Interesting experiment.

Cheers,
Stephen

Looks good Mike, but I think I'm with Stephen... part of the appeal of nightscapes is you see colour where you would normally see black and white (and vice versa with mono daylight photography).

Black and white landscapes are really, really hard.

I don't think they work too well with nightscapes, unfortunately.

Because there is no colour I think the viewer is more aware of the light reflected by the clouds and how dark the foreground, path and trees are so it serves its purpose. I kind of like it. It's closer to reality than a colour pic.

Have to agree Marc, heaps better than colour, actually looks very good, I would prefer this sort of imaging, effective experiment Mike.

Quite interesting Mike.

Be careful though Mike - you are on the dark path - next thing you'll be doing street photography and imaging bums on the street!

I like it. The mixture of stars and clouds in the sky, plus being B&W, give it an other-worldly feel.

Thanks for the feedback and opinions.. I could tell it was never going to please everyone.

In colour, it was too similar to others I've done from the same location (with the car, the ridge etc) so I went for something different with this one.

haha Greg, always tempted but just not enough time in the day

Very nice Mike , its has a nice painted look , I have to agree a lot of the nightscapes are looking similar , B&W makes a nice change.
Are you using B&W effects from Topaz to get that look ?
And don't go photographing Bums on the street ... theres much nicer ones on the beach.

Nice effect Mike.

Try adding some colour just to the stars.

Ross.
