Movie trilogy from Stephen King's Dark Tower octology (?)

Hi,

Apparently lots of negotiating has been going on about this for a while.

Javier Bardem was nominated to play Roland Deschain, the Gunslinger. I think he would have been really good. He could have just done Anton Chigurh again, (from No Country For Old Men ) Well, maybe Roland Deschain is different, OK.

Universal backed away from the project, and now Warner Bros has too. The latest I can find is that Russell Crowe is being touted for the lead role. I don't like that choice (not tall enough or menacing enough), but it would be a great project with the right actor, director and producer. I think maybe Hugh Jackman, eh?

Hope they don't stuff it up, as so with John Sandford's Lucas Davenport character.

Cheers

I'm kinda torn with them making a movie on the series...

The series is by far my absolute favorite series of books, and IMO the culmination of Stephen King's writing career, and i would hate for a movie to be released which doesn't do it justice (as has happened with several of his book-to-film adaptations, unfortunately)

Whenever i read he books, I tend to see Roland as someone like Sam Elliott, with Eddie Dean as Timothy Oliphant, Suzannah as Zoe Saldana, and Jake as someone like Nathan Kress...

Unfortunately, the pictures someone else puts on screen can never fully match my own imaginings as i read the books, but there have been some great adaptations too, particularly from his short story's like Shawshank Redemption and Stand By Me.. Maybe short stories lend more room for interpretation??

Still not sure if i want to see a movie or not, i just hope it doesn't disappoint..

Stephen King is such a master at creating imagery in the minds of his readers, that movies made from his books usually disappoint.
