A new practical Spectroscopy book
A recently published book (in the very useful "Cambridge Observing Handbooks for Research Astronomers" series)
is:
"Introduction to Astronomical Spectroscopy"
by Immo Appenzeller.
(Published in 2012 by Cambridge University Press.)
(The ISBN is: 9781107601796 )
You can get copies of this book for about $40 australian dollars (including postage) on the internet, so don't pay more for a copy!
I do own several of the other books in this Cambridge University Press series of handbooks about making scientific observations (one on infrared astronomy; one on CCD astronomy ; and one on statistics as applied to astronomy).
In general, I do find that these books are useful and concise primers on many fields of observational measurement...... the books that I own do not overemphasize excessive unnecessary technicalities, and they seem to restrict the maths to the essentials of what is necessary for understanding the subject at hand.
I have ordered my own copy of this new book, as I don't have a lot of books on practical spectroscopy with the exception of C.R. Kitchin's 1995 book.
