daylight savings , star for drift alignment

Hi all

two very basic questions (1) using the synscan goto do you have to use daylight saving time on the handset (South Africa) (2) For drift alignment if the star on the eastern horizon is obscured , can one use a star on western horizon and would you have to invert the north or south setting on the mount ?

Thank you for your time.

Andre

Hi Andre, I don't know that set up as I have an Ioptron Minitower. The Minitower does require Daylight Savings Time to be correct. That is, Yes or No must be entered depending on whether DST is active at my location or not.

You may find the answers you require here....

I set my timezone to my normal timezone not including daylight savings, then say "yes" to daylight saving when asked.

And, yes, you can use a star to the west and swap north and south.

For drift alignment you do not even need to set time, it doesn't care, you are only looking for star motion. I never set time etc until after I drift align. Likewise you don't want your mount trying to compensate, tracking stars, while you are drift aligning.
