Mount Stromlo at night

A recent holiday in Canberra allowed a night time visit to Mount Stromlo for some photos.

Is the colour in the 2nd dome in the 1st pic true to life Peter? Looks like Dr Evil has a giant "LASER" hidden in there!

All 3 are wonderful pics to my eye. Wonderful colours.

Yes, there is a laser in that dome and it pulses and glows. This facility is a satellite laser ranging station and it fires lasers at targets on satellites to check their location and orbit. I was there at dusk and noted that the centre dome was moving at intervals. When it was darker it spun around and the round window was on my side and I could see the green laser light coming on periodically.

very nice shots! Did you get to visit the Tidbinbilla Tracking Station, not to far from Stromlo, they have a great visitors centre.

Carlos, we did go to Tidbinbilla, we didn't go on a tour, but looked through the displays in the visitors centre and made a few photos of the dishes and so on. It was a great place and they've got a real moon rock :-) Life size model of the Mars Rover was an eye opener too, it's much larger than I'd imagined.
