A Window To My Soul

Hi all,

Another image from the night spent up at Mt Buffalo hanging out with Colin Legg.

Lookout at "The Horn"

Interior of the hut was gently light painted with a headlamp during the single exposure.

Another nice image Greg. I like it.

With your backgrounds I notice they are often magenta/bluish which is a nice look. Do you select a cool white balance to achieve that effect as it probably does not come out of the camera like that right? Its a bit of a Canon signature look as well. Nikons tend to be more green/yellow and need white balance cooled off a fair bit to tame it plus a correction to yellow/green in the white balance colour graph.

Greg.

It's basically just my 'signature' WB setting Greg. It's what I personally find most pleasing. Might not be to everyones taste. I dial it in for all my images in camera when the sky is truly dark. If the moon is up I have another Kelvin temp that I use. This saves me worrying about colour balance in post processing. If I know my WB is the same for every shot, then any difference in colour is basically all down to what is happening up in the sky at the time.

Yeah I might have pushed the cheese factor on this one, but I like to be creative with my image titles as well as the image itself. I post on a number of different photo sharing sites and social media and some of them need a title. I don't think I could ever just upload shots with titles like.... "moon" "moon2" "moon again" "stars through window" "milky way" "milky way and a tree" "milky way and another tree".........

Thank you very much Ross "Stargate"- I love it! Might just have to use that as a name for a future image.
