SkySlab Update

Found a major flaw with my OB. In summer the ecliptic is below my visble sky limit with smaller scopes. The 10" wasn't too bad but I couldn't see any planets or the moon until they were well over in the western sky.
Solution: Extend the pier height.

I bought 2 lengths of M12 threaded rod, cut them in half and replaced the standoffs from the base to the mount plate. Ok, that sounds all wobbly doesn't it. But I added another plate in between and then sandwiched a strong metallic spacer (160mm) between which rendered the bottom section solid with the rest of the pier below.

I've gained about 200mm over my previous setup and of course it is now raining so I can't ge in to do a tweak to the alignment but hopefully it should let me have a go at a planet or two ( Hang on Jupiter, I'm coming !! ) and it is adjustable and reversable should it prove not to be a best solution.

It also gave me a nice little shelf on the mount to place the controller on ..
Pictures available before and after if required.
