First Contact Cairns 2012 Total Eclipse

Hi all,

Being out at sea meant that there was a good chance of clearing alot of cloud above land, nevertheless there was still plenty of cloud over the horizon.

This was the first glimpse of the sun rising over that cloud. On the top left edge you can begin to see the moon creeping across the sun.

This is not the actual moment of first contact but close to it as far as seeing conditions permited.

Sadly, I recognise the cloud formations. LOL But a great catch.
I think the clouds added to the moment.
Were you on that big cruise ship we saw off shore? I nabbed a quick snap of the ship and will post it along with my cloudy eclipse shots.

Thank you very much Nettie We were on a small catamaran mored near the coral reef, the cat was able accomodate 100 people but they limited it to 50 so we could see the event with out getting in each others way. We were very lucky not to get clouded out.
