A quick timelapse with 14mm and 35mm of yesterday's Aurora. It was quite strong visually with hints of pale green colour from Mornington Peninsula. Unfortunately clouds came when the display was the strongest.
That is great footage ! The Auroras are on my bucket list and are something I look for evey time I venture south !
It is interting to look at todays Auroral oval map and relate that to last nights show from Mornington Peninsula.
I would be interested to know what our Tassie brothers and sister saw ? http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/pmap/gif/pmapS.gif
High level cloud obscured any sightings last night from here in Tinderbox, just south of Hobart. I was on the lookout up until about 11.00pm.
The aurora on the previous night was visible as a broad diffuse glow between the broken cloud banks. I could not detect any colour, however viewing to the low horizon to the south was heavily clouded.
The outstanding visual aurora that I have managed to see this year is still the one on 15th July.
7 mile beach seems a fabulous location for these. I wonder how rare the aurora is there.
Greg.
If you are on FB this is a great group to watch https://www.facebook.com/groups/215002295201328/ The aurora down there are more common than you might think. It was going off there again last night by the looks of all the photos.
