I finally received my adapter for my QHY8 to screw onto the end of the Hyperstar, so I took it for a spin last night.
No guiding, no drift alignment, no collimation, I just unscrewed the secondary on the C9.25, screwed the Hyperstar on, fired up Nebulosity on the Mac and took a picture of the Orion Nebula.
So plenty of eggy star trails, but I wanted to see if it worked at all.
One nice side effect is that it seems to take longer before dew is a problem when the Hyperstar is attached.
I took 10 images of 45 seconds each, did a very quick stack in Nebulosity, and applied the default DPP settings, I didn't bother to process it much as the lack of alignment etc. mean very awful eggy stars, I just wanted to see how long you needed to image for at F2.
I need to wait until end of semester to get my mount sorted, collimate the Hyperstar, get a dew shield etc. but wanted to take it for a quick spin.
It is definitely a piece of cake to fit and remove, takes less than a minute, and feels very solid. I'm keen to see how it will go when I have the time to put into it.
Nice one Poita. I just received my Hyperstar for my C11 yesterday (but no counterweight came with it ) and my ccd is on backorder, can't wait to get out and use it - when it stops raining! Hope to see more from you soon.
