An Aussie far from home.

Hi all,

Having come across this site before I thought it may as well be time to register to the forum as well and say a bit about myself. My name is Jarrod and I am originally from Adelaide but now live in Brussels, Belgium and I got my first telescope here a couple of years ago. As far as gear goes at the moment I have a Skywatcher 150PL, Celestron Astromaster 90(which I haven't got around to using yet) and a Coronado PST. I also have a Phillips 880 webcam and Canon 450D.

I don't have vast amounts of expertise and am always looking to learn more, I'd like to get sunk more into the AP side of things eventually but for now would be happy to improve my planetary and widefield shots. Plus there is always a growing want list to add to my kit too.

Anyway for now that's it I guess, just wanted to say hello.

You are a long way from home, bur how exciting!! I stayed for a few days in a hotel just off the main besutiful square in Brussels.

You have some good gear there, and lotsa people around to help with the AP side of stuff.

Oh yes it can. My parents were living in Dunkerque for a while and the rain usually falls horizontally.
Not an astro friendly weather by any standard.

All in all it's fairly nice here apart from the light pollution which is dreadful. I have no idea when I'll be back home though, maybe when the kids are a bit older we'll come back and enjoy the southern skies.

Al, If it's the same Merlin66(Ken) I'm thinking of I have met him not too long ago and bought a mount off of him. A very knowledgeable and nice person too.

And yeah the weather is -7°C and dropping as I type, not as bad as further east but cold enough for me. Very little snow though.

yes, I heard on the news about the severe weather warning about to hit UK from a a cold front in Europe!!

It was definitely a cold one last night.

Thanks, I'm kind of at a standstill at the moment as I'm unsure where we will be living by the end of the year, I'll either head more into the solar side and finally do a PST mod or if we go somewhere with less LP I want to get better with widefield and maybe even venture into deep sky imaging, slowly.

Yep, and it's still going on. It's been pretty clear at night, mostly, but temps of -10°C aren't conducive to going out to observe.

Hopefully the clouds break soon, as Faith said it had been reasonably clear but now the temp is up the clouds are back.
