He just took on a sales assistant a month or two ago as well - perhaps Ron isn't well?
He never said anything about being ill last time i was in.
Three telescope places are/were up for sale in the last few months

Jen,

Ron mentions on-going health issues when you go to the home screen. Actually he doesn't say his own health is the issue, but I guess that's what he's talking about.

What other two were up for sale recently?

Not sure which ones, as I was told by the SAS committee about them - I tend to believe them - since Renato is in the 'know', by and large

bummer, ive know of sirius for as long as i can remember. I hope either they get better (preferably) or it sells to someone else as good as them. There are plenty of other places cheaper than them but damn the service and knowledge is legendary.

Many thanks for all your concerns folks but the illness is not me but my wife. Clare has been diagnosed with Bladder Cancer and is undergoing treatment. Whilst it is not life threatening, it does make one redefine their priorities in life. Sirius Optics will continue to provide the best service that I can and the best advice we can. Peter Marples is still working here and I have also employed Greg Bock (both from SAS) so between all of us, there is a wealth of knowledge available and none of us has a cosmology degree but plenty of practical experience.

Many thanks for your thoughts,

Ron (Sirius Optics)

Hi All,
Yes, I am the lucky guy who Ron employed to help out on Saturday mornings along with Peter Marples.
We both work alternative Saturdays, but as it turns out, July is a busy month for us at Sirius Optics due to the Astroimaging Conference on 9th and 10th July, as well as the Queensland Astrofest, so I'll be there all Saturdays in July, except the 9th.

So, please feel free to drop in on Saturday's and say 'Hi' and have a chat to Peter or I, and you may even score a Mars Bar or Milky Way if you're lucky.

Unfortunately, my day job prevents me from doing more to help at the shop, but I look forward to catching up with everyone who wanders in on Saturdays.

And Ron, I am sure I speak on behalf of Peter and the rest of the guys in the BOSS team to wish Clare the best in her treatment and recovery.

Hi Ron

Wishing you both well and I do hope Clare is back in fine form soon doing the Time Warp at your shop. I'm kidding..
It must be quite a stressful time for you both and it's wonderful that Clare is going to be okay.

Gosh, if someone doesn't buy the shop, I don't think there are any other astro shops in Brisbane . York closed down last year as well. No no no Ron, I've never been there, honest, I've only ever come in to your shop.

And you're not wrong about those Saturday yack sessions. I walked in one Saturday to buy my 10" dob and it was like a party in there , boy, did they have to work when I walked in.

Ron,

Sorry to hear about your wife and hope she has a speedy recovery. As for Sirius Optics, you do a fantastic job - it's great having a shop only a 10 minute drive from my place!!

Cheers,
Mario

Here's hoping your wife has a speedy recovery Ron!

I have only got to Sirius Optics once so far, a few Saturday's ago but ended up finding a brilliant binocular book and the staff were very friendly. Really can't wait to pop back in there when we're ready to take the big step and by our scope!

I really hope this amazing shop continues on for many years to come

Ditto to what Greg said.
I only "work" there every 2nd Saturday, that is if you can call it work, it's more like fun & talking astro.
Ron & Clare are genuine, sincere people who have long supported astro events in Qld as well as being very charitable over the last 10 years. I know they thank you for your support both of the business & thoughts for Clare.
Sirius have been in Brizzy for 10 years and the next ten look even brighter!
Maybe I will get more peanuts in my bag next week or a bigger piece of cake, hehe.
PeterM.

Good to hear Sirius will be continuing to do business. I've bought a few thousand dollars worth of solar gear there - great prices and outstanding after-sales service. Hope you can soon put the family health problems behind you Ron and get back to focusing on the pleasant side of life.
