titan plus meade 14" or C14 combination - counter weights

for those with the titan mount and who may have a 14" scope hanging off it - how many weights do you have on the mount? the standard 2 that came with it or 3 or 4? (add ed80 guide scope and a heavy focuser and camera)

Hi David, I have the 14" LX200, with 8x50 finder and no guide scope, as I use a OAG. There is the Astro 40D, 2" flip mirror, large Feather Touch focuser and 20Da. I have the 2 losmandy weights, plus a DIY extention with a 10lb wieght at the end of it. The 2 losmandy weights are above the extention.

If you are not going to use an extention, you would need 4 (guess) Losmandy weights. The extention is 12" long.

thanks Lester - i have the two original weights plus one from the G11 (i bought two smaller ones from Mick Pinner before) so all up i have three weights with one having a 5kg bar bell weight stuck to it - might be on the limit with the three at full length on the original bar?

It can be a bit of an unknown, so you could just wait and see...like I did...and still haven't got me any extra NJP weights

So you've got a Titan +14" SCT in the dog house now? What happens to the G11/Refractor. Mobile set up?

Yep. 4 weights. I have no extensin bar so U use 2 x Losmandy and 2 home-grown of the same weight. It holds an EdgeHD14", 80mm guidescope, rings and ADM bar, cameras etc.
Doesn't struggle although I still haven't been able to solve mystery of elongated stars.

I've found Robin Casady's information on calculating "How much counterweight" to be useful, see here. Pretty basic arithmetic and keeps your mind active at least, hope this may help.

no still got the C11 - not giving that up - will be used on the g11 the 127 can go on the eq6 and the heqpro5 will carry the ed80 and other cameras and lenses and they do make a kit for the 14" but i would rather use the C11 for the minute to cut my teeth on

3 rigs? I'm confused now. How do you fit the G11/C11 + Titan/14" in the doghouse? Swap'em around or you have plans for a doghouse extension?

david i use a C14 on a G11 and i use 17.5kg in counterweights total. But thats with no Guidescope. If your gunna use a C14 for observing dso i suggest you buy a focal reducer because the C14 has way too much focal length for objects like the Lagoon Neb.
