Let's hope when they do find some aliens, the Vatican doesn't get it into their heads to try and "convert" them. In any case, our religions, except on a very general basis, will most likely be totally incomprehensible to many aliens. They'll most likely be far enough ahead of us that our ideas will seem rather quaint to them, if not ridiculous and rather primitive.

The underlined statement undermines the whole venture, for me …

.. err that would be because science doesn't provide answers .. it is about asking questions and making predictions .. religions and beliefs attempt answers.
