Optus Broadband Plans

Heads up

new package plans are in place offering more internet for the same price but if you don't ring up they won't change it

I was paying $99 a month for an ADSL2 Optus Fusion Plan which includes the home phone and 20GB internet allowance before speed capping

Now $79 a month for 120GB of data etc

This to me stinks how many people out there don't review what's being offerred and continue to pay more for less

IINET offer ADSL2+ terrabyte plans pretty cheap, if they suck I would give them a go. I cant get ADSL2+ in my area but still use their service.

I get 53GB a month from Bigpond ADSL 2. I use about 4GB per month of it. It costs me $130 per month for everything but I am quite happy with the service. I have a landline with ADSL 2 +phones and a next G wireless as a back up and portable use.

I supply wireless internet to two of my neighbours who can't get ADSL 2 (no charge). They repay the favour in many ways that money can't buy.
When I go to Wiruna I supply internet to anyone who wants it. If you have been to the "house" you will know. The internet is a great tool for communication and a source of information. This can be fully serviced on about 3 GB per month. Remember the early days when 200MB was considered a lot on a dial up system.

I remember getting unlimited 56k dial up for the first time...and managing to 6 or 7 gig a month in downloading...now with adsl2+ speed, i regularly break the 150gig a month mark which is my monthly quota...lol and finally paying a reasonable amount for it. Go Internode

Not all ISP's do it.

I am quite happy to report that ozemail (iinet) automatically upgraded my data allowance twice last year at no extra cost, from 10GB to 30GB to 100GB. In fact they upgraded my allowance so much that I ended up dropping to a cheaper plan with my original (10GB) allowance.

I did the same thing Andrew with IINET. Saved me about $20 a month.

You might want to give them a call. I pay $80.00 for 50GB with telstra business. Used to pay $130.00, then $100.00 and $80.00 now. They introduce new plans all the time but don't advertise to existing customers. I pays off to check their website now and then. It's the only way to find out.

The 50GB section costs $69. The telephone costs $38. The mobile broadband $30 for 3GB. Can you beat that. I get calls from all the telcos to change but none of them can meet my discounts. I do check my plans regularly for any improvements. But I am on the best deals already.

Barry

PS I do also have two mobiles with optus that are hardly ever used. This costs $10 month for the convenience.

I thought you paid that amount for the broadband only that's what prompted me asking you to check the new plans. Yes I get the same standard rates on landlines and mobiles although I have all mines on a group saver and as a result mobile to mobile is free for a up to 10min call. Because of invoicing glitches in the past Telstra also's given me 50% off mobile to mobile or landline calls. Top of my head I think it's now down to 8c/min. But I still spend way too much with Telstra IMO

What do you need 150GB for other than streaming video, music etc. These can be done other ways at much less effort. I am on the internet all day checking emails, downloading program data, making reports, giving instructions etc. and very seldom use more than 500MB per day even when uploading 100MB programs and data to my web site.

Perhaps this is exactly why he needs 150 - for streaming. download movies and music! I am the same. It is far more convenient than driving all the way to the video shop or my nearest music store (JB). We have 120gb and use 80% of it most months.

That is exactly my point 150 GB of movies could be 30 movies a month. I can't remember 20 movies in the last 5 years that would be worth wasting time watching. As for songs (ipods refills etc), Well!

Unless of course it is pirated material for re-distribution to acquantances.

I have a collection of movies and TV series in nice packages in my library. Some I have not seen yet. These days I don't get much time to look at them as there is plenty of entertainment on all the new free TV channels and if the program you want is on at the wrong time my recorder can take care of that.

Each to his own, Barry. Just because some may think watching movies are a waste of time, doesn't mean other do. You spend your spare time how you wish. And please don't imply that either myself or any other member "pirates" movies "for re-distribution to acquantances". That is offensive and unnecessary. I purchase every simple movie, TV program song, and podcast I download.

What do you mean by "As for songs (ipods refills etc), Well! " - I do not understand your grammer.

Your post, as a whole, truely sounds like you are talking down me.

Interesting comment. I don't think I implied anything about what you may do specifically. In fact I don't even know who you are as you don't sign your posts. If you want to down load stuff that is available on the internet that is your right and how you use it is entirely your business.

No offence intended

Barry
