Coloured Filters

i just bought my first lot of coloured filters from Bintel. They are Yellow, Orange, Blue, and Green. Anyway my question is will i be able to see the red spot on Jupiter much clearer now? I can barely see it now. I have a 12" SW collaspible dob. Also is a shroud for my scope worth getting? If so can anyone recommend me one?

Hi Mark,

I've found that the blue 80A filter that I got from Bintel is great for seeing the Red Spot on Jupiter. It's also helped me out with seeing mottling in the bands on nights of good seeing, and since I only have an 8" Dob I reckon it should definitely help you see it a bit better.

Regards

Ant

Have a look at http://www.bintel.com.au/Filters.html and http://www.lumicon.com/astronomy-acc...d=1&cn=Filters for details information on which filters are for which objects. The Lumicon info is quite detailed toward the bottom of the page.
