Last of a brave generation

William Evan Allan the last Australian to see active service in WW1 was laid to rest yesterday after passing away on the 18/10/05 . A generation who volunteered military service to country, commonwealth and King has finally given away to the passage of time , god bless them all and may we never forget .

"Those heroes that shed their blood
and lost their lives;
You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country.
Therefore rest in peace.
There is no difference between the Johnnies
and the Mehemets to us where they lie side by side
here in this country of ours.
You, the mothers,
who sent their sons from far away countries,
wipe away your tears;
your sons are now lying in our bosom
and are at peace.
After having lost their lives on this land they have
become our sons as well."

My mother was in a Japanese POW camp for nearly four years,my father was in Holland under the Germans.

No repressive laws make this correct.

This is what these young men died for.To fight for freedom! Not to be locked up without charge and without hope!

Lest YOU forget!

Hear hear! Normally I play a bit of a devil's advocate because I have a friend that is often bagging the liberal government (he goes a bit far), but when I read about these crazy suggested laws even I got seriously worried.

Farewell thee, may you rest long now.

As for our new laws, hmmm. Being held without coming before the Courts in a reasonable time sounds very much like those laws that these men fought and died against. In 1939 the Reichstag under Adolf Hitler implimented similars laws against the Jews. Seems we just have not learnt from the past. Our vigilance has waned and now we vote by popular opinion and from gut decisions. No thought is being made toward why Freedom fighters (terrorists) make the stand they do. Perhaps if we examined this and acted accordingly we would not be implimented the fortress Australia policy.

Hi All,

Certainly agree with your comments Paul,
Indeed,we NEVER SEEM TO LEARN by the past mistakes of our "Experts",who govern us.

The human race,it seems,is quite happy to lose our loved ones in conflict, for
Little,or NO GAIN.
What a terrible Shame.
Why, do we still allow the same type of people,where it really counts???

Regards.John

I wholeheartedly agree with all your sentiments.

BTW. Based on the title, "Last of a brave generation", I thought this thread was going to be about someone still doing astrophotography with film.
